If the LJ iPhone app actually let you read your friend list I be way more apt to actually use this thing again.

So so interesting.

Can't really decide if I miss LJ or not. It was such a huge part of my online life for so many years. Maybe it'll be good to remember how to write in full paragraphs instead of 140 character bursts? I think having the iPhone app will help. We'll see!

This is pretty common knowledge but whatever, I was thinking about it today and I love the song and this performance in particular.

Elvis Costello got invited to play Saturday Night Live in 1977 at the last minute when the Sex Pistols couldn't get visas because of their criminal records. He wanted to play Radio Radio, but his record label wanted him to play an older, established song. So he started playing the song the label wanted him to, and then this happened:

Pretty good, right?

In 1999, on the SNL 25th anniversary special, he busted in on the Beastie Boys playing Sabotage and they became his backing band for another Radio Radio performance:

I was watching that show live, and I remember when the Beasties started playing Sabotage thinking "Ugh really? Sabotage? Not again". So it was pretty great to see Elvis come in and bust it up.

This Thing That Happened

So last Sunday afternoon a big chunk of my friends got together and threw me a Surprise Birthday Party and it was a lot of fun and really touching and nice.

I'll tell you more about it later.

MEMORY LANE

I almost never go back and read old LJ entries, but I've just spent some time scanning ones from right after I moved to Seattle, late 2001 and early 2002. They're pretty hilarious.

I was so angsty and miserable. I had no friends here and was living with my parents in Bellevue. Sometime in December '01 (after being here like 2 months) I wrote something to the effect of "moving here was a terrible mistake. I'm never going to make friends and I'm just going to be miserable forever etc...."

This post (from the 22 year old me) is especially notable for its hopelessness, and especially poignant in light of my 30th birthday in 2 weeks. I can emphatically state that the time has not passed in the blink of an eye.
